Kosovo Serb protesters attack NATO-led forces with explosive devices, several injured, 1 police vehicle torched

Prishtina, 29 May 2023, dtt-net.com – Serbia-backed protesters today afternoon clashed with NATO-led troops (KFOR ) in Kosovo north throwing stones and explosive devices and torched one vehicle of Kosovan police, as tensions resumed in the Serb-predominantly area following newly elected mayors taking office after last month elections boycotted by Serbia-backed Serb List and its supporters.

In Zvecan municipality the protest turned violent as KFOR stepped in to prevent Serbia-backed protesters from storming municipal building.

Kosovo police said that as a result of the violence, “several KFOR officials have been hurt/wounded so far, and five suspects who have used attacks and violence against them have been arrested so far.”

“Also, an official car of the KP (Kosovo Police) was set on fire and other cars were also damaged,” police said in a press release.

In separate statement, KFOR said that around 25 its members were wounded during the attacks by protesters.

“Around 25 wounded from the multinational contingent during the containment of protesting demonstrators that happened in the municipality of Zvecan,” it said.

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vcic, said in a press conference that 52 Serb protesters were injured during the clashes.
