Albania government throws out of offices private TV station amid rent expiration dispute

Tirana, 09 August 2025, dtt-net.com – On the orders of government, Albanian police Saturday morning halted broadcasting of a private tv station, by not allowing journalists to enter offices, cutting broadcasting signal and electricity amid rent expiration dispute over the building owned by the government.

The action taken by the authorities without prior notice nor court decision to the Focus Media Group in capital Tirana, while the media group insists it has a rent agreement valid until 2033 of the area and the ministry says the contrary over the same space, caused outrage of local and regional media organizations, which accuse the government of the Prime Minister Edi Rama of attack on free media.
