Albania’s ruling party delays decision over immunity of indicted Deputy PM/Minister

Tirana, 19 December 2025, dtt-net.com – Albania’s ruling Socialist Party (PS) of the Prime Minister Edi Rama today made everything possible in the Parliament to delay a decision on the demand of the special prosecutor’s office to strip off parliamentary immunity of the indicted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Infrastructure and energy, Belinda Balluku, who is charged of wrongdoing related to two public procurements in construction sector and is being investigated in several other cases, also in construction sector. After a five-hour meeting of the parliamentary committee on mandates behind closed doors, the Speaker of the Parliament Niko Peleshi interrupted the meeting without announcing a new date, while opposition lawmakers insist on tackling the matter on Monday (December 22) without further delay, accusing Rama and his PS lawmakers of defending indicted official through obstructions.
