State of emergency declared in 11 Serbia municipalities amid snowfall

Belgrade, 11 January 2026, dtt-net.com – Emergency situation is declared in eleven municipalities in Serbia amid heavy snowfall in recent days causing traffic and electricity disruptions in several areas of the country. According to the authorities some 22000 people were without electricity supply on Saturday, with most difficult situation reported in west and southwest of the country with temperatures reaching down to -14 Celsius degrees and snow up to 40 cm.

Authorities said that 19 aggregates of power are provided to normalize electricity supply in the affected settlements in the territory of western municipalities of Loznica and Valjevo, and Majdanpek in east of the country.

The ministry of interior said that during the week fire and rescue units recorded 77 interventions due to snowfall, with the engagement of 190 firefighters-rescuers with 85 vehicles, 19 pumps and three boats, during which they removed fallen trees, pumped water, provided assistance to the emergency services, performed other technical interventions and evacuated 30 people.
