2 EU lawmakers call for suspension of funds to Serbia

Brussels/Belgrade, 09 April 2026, dtt-net.com – Two members of the European Parliament of two political groups, called on the European Commission (EC) to suspend EU funding to Serbia citing ongoing and increasing deterioration of rule of law, democratic standards and fundamental rights by the authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling party. In a letter addressed to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the College of Commissioners, MEPs Vladimir Prebilič (Greens/EFA) and Sandro Gozi (Renew Europe, Secretary General of the European Democratic Party – EDP) warn that recent developments mark a “significant escalation in the erosion of democratic norms.”
