European Greens scold EU’s top official for meeting with authoritarian Serbia’s President

Belgrade/Brussels, 03 June 2026, dtt-net.com - The European Green Party (EGP) addressed strong criticism to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa for travelling to Belgrade to meet with authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic citing further democratic backsliding in Serbia because of the leader. “António Costa’s visit is a moment of clarity for the European Union. Less than two weeks ago 200,000 people called for Vučić’s resignation and free elections in one of the largest protests that Belgrade has seen, so the EU cannot give the impression that business continues as usual. It must stand with the people of Serbia, not with the authoritarian regime of Vučićn,” Vula Tsetsi, Co-chair of the EGP said in a press statement while Costa was about to travel to Belgrade from Kosovan capital of Prishtina.
