Brussels, 14 July 2026, dtt-net.com – Ukraine today opened two more negotiating chapters in EU accession talks, after opening first five a month ago.
Today the candidate country opened Chapter 30 (External relations) and Chapter 31 (Foreign, security and defence policy) of the Cluster 6 (External relation).
“Today’s conference demonstrates not only our commitment to Ukraine’s accession process, but also Ukraine’s commitment to their EU path, to our union and to our values. We commend the determination. The progress we are securing today also sends an important message to the citizens of Ukraine, who are in the frontline for the European values of freedom democracy and equality,” said in a press conference Thomas Byrne, Minister of State for European affairs of Ireland, the country which holds current rotating EU Presidency.
“For us the opening of cluster 6 is another, a reminder of the meaning of a common foreign security policy, and a common foreign and security policy in the current world,” said Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka recalling continued shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russia, including last night.
“In the area of common security policy unity is so important and today I see also another indication that Europe is united, Europe is united with Ukraine and we all together will win and prevail,” he added.
The opening of two chapters today follows the opening of negotiations on Cluster 1 (Fundamentals) on 15 June.
Cluster 1 is composed of Chapter 5 (Public procurement), Chapter 18 (Statistics), Chapter 23 (Judiciary and fundamental rights), Chapter 24 (Justice, freedom and security) and Chapter 32 (Financial control). The cluster is opened first and closed last in the accession negotiations.
