Albania PM avoids interpellation with lawmakers over indicted deputy PM/Minister

Tirana, 04 December 2025, dtt-net.com – The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has avoided an interpellation asked by opposition lawmakers over his refusal to dismiss the indicted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku who is suspended from her posts by the Special Court on Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) following charges by the prosecution of breach of rules of two public procurements. Speaker of Parliament, Niko Peleshi, today said that he has rejected the interpellation call by the Democratic Party (PD) parliamentary group chairperson, Gazment Bardhi, awaiting the response of the Constitutional Court over Rama’s request to repeal suspension of Balluku. The call for interpellation was followed with a vote, but 74 lawmakers of Rama’s Socialist Party (PS) voted against, while 17 from opposition in favour.
