Albania PM refuses to lift immunity of indicted Deputy PM/Minister despite ban greenlight by top court

Tirana, 09 February 2026, dtt-net.com – The ruling Albania’s Socialist Party (PS) of the Prime Minister Edi Rama today said that it will not allow the Parliament to treat the request of the special prosecution to lift immunity of indicted Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, while at the same time announcing law changes against suspension of government officials from holding positions when  indicted. “…the socialist parliamentary group will engage in the solution through intervention in legislation,” Rama said through X after PS lawmakers meeting over party’s interpretation of the last week decision of the Constitutional Court which greenlighted ban on Belinda Balluku by Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) on demand of the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) to hold positions.
