EU Parliament delegation travels to Serbia over ongoing tensions

Brussels/Belgrade, 16 January 2026, dtt-net.com – nine members of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee will be in Serbian capital on January 23 for a fact-finding visit over ongoing tensions between protesting students and authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling Progressive Party (SNS). But Vucic and Speaker of the Parliament Ana Brnabic are refusing to meet the delegation whom they accuse of siding with students and opposition following widespread protests on almost daily basis since November 2024 triggered by collapse of train station canopy in northern town of Novi Sad which killed 16 people, including a student.
