Serbia authoritarian President decrees judiciary laws contested by the EU Commission and opposition

Belgrade, 30 January 2026, dtt-net.com – The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has signed five judiciary-related laws sponsored by the ruling party which he controls and adopted two days ago, and which are protested by the European Commission (EC) and local opposition parties. Amidst five laws published today at country’s official gazette, amendments to the Law on Public Prosecution, are the one most contested as according to the EC and the opposition they hurt independence of the judiciary.
