EU lawmakers call member states and Commission to sanction Serbia officials over human rights violations

Strasbourg/Belgrade, 22 October 2025, dtt-net.com – The European Parliament (EP) today in a resolution called governments of 27 member states and the European Commission (EC) impose “targeted” sanctions against “individuals” responsible for serious violations of law and human rights in Serbia, amid ongoing tensions between authorities led by authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic and students protesting against him and government he controls.

The EU legislative body in the resolution adopted by 457 votes in favour, 103 against, and 72 abstentions also calls for deployment of an “ad hoc EU fact-finding mission to Serbia”, with the participation of the European Parliament, “in order to assess, on the ground, the state of democracy, the ongoing protests, attacks on demonstrators and repression targeting students, academics, educators and public-sector employees.”
