Tirana, 31 October 2025, dtt-net.com – The three-time leftist prime minister of Albania, Fatos Nano, died today at age of 73 amid health problems.
Nano was in hospital treatment since October 8 and passed away after a cardiac attack.
He held the helm of country’s government three times (1991, 1997-1998 and 2002-2005).
Nano is known of transforming and reforming the former communist Labour Party into the Socialist Party (PS) in 1992.
He was jailed from 1993 to 1997 after sentenced of corruption during the Democratic Party (PD) governing of the country led by the then conservative President and today’s leader of the opposition Democratic Party (PD) Sali Berisha.
After resigning from the post in 2025, Nano retired from political and public life.
