Sarajevo, 03 November 2025, dtt-net.com – EU’s chief of diplomacy called today Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) politicians and institutions to focus on reforms needed for membership in the European bloc, which would pave the way for termination of international supervision, thus terminating the mandate of Office of High Representative (OHR).
Kaja Kallas made the call today during a visit to BiH capital Sarajevo, as local political parties of Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats continue their disputes on the reforms for EU pathway but also on country’s internal system functioning and its future too.
“If Constitution is respected, if the powers (local authorities) here are ready to adopt decisions, then it’s also no need for the international intervention. As soon that is the case, sooner the international powers can be faded out as well,” Kallas told reporters in a press conference while visiting troops of the EU peacekeeping mission EUFOR-ALTHEA, whose mandate last week was renewed by the UN Security Council for another 12 months.
Kallas said so when asked about disputes between the parties of the three ethnicities over the mandate of the OHR currently held by the western-backed German diplomat Christian Schmidt.
The pro-Russia main ruling party of Serbs, the SNSD of Milorad Dodik, wants the OHR mandate terminated, while Bosniak parties are against as they fear that without supervision and intervention of OHR office the Serb party would pursue its secessionist policy to break up the country.
Last month the parliament of Serb entity surprisingly repealed several secessionist laws and in exchange last week dozens of its officials, including Dodik, got removed from the list of sanctions by Donald Trump’ government imposed by previous governments of Joe Biden.
Dodik and more than 30 of his associates, and companies close to him, were sanctioned for breach of Constitution and secessionist threats.
It remains still unclear what is the main reason of ending the sanctions by the current government in Washington and whether the annulment of laws by Serb entity’s parliament controlled by Dodik and his SNSD is permanent.
