One dead in Albania amid severe floods

Tirana, 08 January 2026, dtt-net.com – A 54-year-old man is found dead in Albanian coastal town of Durres amid severe floods which have hit the country following heavy rainfalls, authorities said.

Police said the body of the victim was found in a drainage canal and the mans is believed to being swept away by water flow in the town.

Albanian National Agency for Civilian Protection (AKMC) today said that as a result of heavy rainfall, river levels in some districts of the country have risen in recent hours, which has created serious problems, mainly flooding of agricultural lands and houses and causing landslides, electricity and traffic disruptions.

According to the agency the most difficult situation is in Shkodra, Lezha, Durres, Fier, Berat and Gjirokastra districts, while in other districts the situation is “under monitoring or without danger.”

In Durres, Lezha and Vlora districts hundreds of people have been evacuated amid floods.
