Kosovo trying to convince European countries for Council of Europe entry conditioned with controversial autonomous body

Prishtina/Strasbourg, 21 April 2026, dtt-net.com – Kosovan government has relaunched its efforts to try convincing EU countries open the door for membership in the Strasbourg-based human rights and democracy organization Council of Europe, which European powers have blocked and conditioned since 2024 with the demand of forming controversial autonomous body for Serbia-backed Kosovan Serb minority. After discussions over the topic between the EU envoy for Kosovo-Serbia negotiations Peter Sorensen and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti last week in Prishtina, today the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca, was in Strasbourg meeting top representatives of CoE.
