Rubio says USA supports Italian candidate for Bosnia position, as decision with EU and UK imminent

Washington/Sarajevo, 03 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The government of Donald Trump is supportive of Italian candidate for the position of High Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Secretary of State Marko Rubio said today, as European governments and the USA administration are expected to take a decision this week to replace German diplomat Christian Schmidt. “Well, as you know, the pre-existing High-Rep (High Representative) has resigned, and so there's a new candidate that we'll be supporting. He is an Italian gentleman that we think would do a good job of helping provide some stability to that position,” Rubio said when asked by the House of Representative Keith Self during a hearing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
