USA to be involved in revival of planned gas interconnector from Croatia, through Bosnia in Montenegro to Albania, for American LNG too

Podgorica, 24 August 2026, dtt-net.com – The Ionian-Adriatic-Pipeline (IAP) initially proposed, and almost forgotten for years, to supply the four countries only with Azerbaijani natural gas, is likely to be revived and become bidirectional for American LNG supplies from Croatian Krk terminal too, while at the same time be ready for hydrogen use in the future, according to new documents as result of the last month agreement between USA and Montenegro governments for strategic projects. “IAP is expected to constitute the backbone of Montenegro’s future gas transmission system. Its implementation would create a new energy connection between the Southern Gas Corridor and the gas systems of the Adriatic region, while also allowing reverse-flow access from the Croatian system and the LNG terminal on Krk or other future supply sources,” reads a project overview of Montenegro’s government published at the USA embassy in Podgorica, over the 94-km gas pipeline project in Montenegro territory, as part of wider Adriatic–Ionian Corridor which includes also a motorway project between the four countries.
