No consensus amidst EU member states for closing more negotiating chapters with Montenegro this month in entry talks

Brussels, 18 September 2026, dtt-net.com – Montenegro officials were hoping to close at least three more negotiating chapters in EU accession negotiations, if not the one on which no breakthrough is reached so far with Croatia on bilateral disputes, but member states are still in disagreement on three others too, dtt-net.com learns. Sources told dtt-net.com that the meeting of today on Chapter 14 (Transport Policy) which Croatia is still vetoing, Chapter 12 (Food Safety, Veterinary and phytosanitary policy; Chapter 18 (Statistics) and Chapter 19 (Social policy and employment) member states are still in disagreement to reaching “common position” for closing them. Sources refused to unveil names of states which have objections on chapters 12, 18 and 19, however.
