Prishtina, 30 September 2026, dtt-net.com – Kosovo Albanian war veterans and opposition have called for another mass rally in capital Prishtina, as daily ones continue since 16th December, to express their discontent on the guilty verdict by the first instance panel of European and American judges on former President Hashim Thaçi and three other former leaders of KLA guerilla which fought for liberation and independence from Serbia.
Protests named “The Freedom has a name”, are taking place as Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi are sentenced to total 81 years of imprisonment on war crimes charges against Albanian and Serb civilians, whom the prosecution and judges said they are responsible of being mistreated and murdered by guerilla members treating them as coloraturas and spies of Serbia.
Protests have now spread beyond Kosovo towns.
Thousands gathered during the weekend in North Macedonia’s capital of Skopje, while Diaspora in European countries is also holding sporadic rallies.
In the mean time Thaçi’s supporters are calling the prime minister Albin Kurti to amend the law, which would enable transfer of proceedings from the court in The Hague to Kosovo courts, if appeal panel orders a retrial as the defence is about to appeal the verdict of 16 September.
