Bosnia floods death toll rises to 16

Sarajevo, 06 October 2024, dtt-net.com – Bodies of sixteen people are found so far in Herzegovina-Neretva County of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and nine people are reported missing, authorities said Sunday after Friday severe floods and landslides.

“According to official data from the Headquarters of Civil Protection of Herzegovina-Neretva County and the Ministry of Interior of HNŽ, the number of people who died in flood-affected areas of HNŽ, as of this report, is 16 dead,” county’s authorities said.

Of the total number of fatalities, fifteen people were from Jablanica, one from Konjic, while last night there was another unverified report of another dead person in the area of ​​Buturović Polje, according to a press release.

In Konjic, according to the BiH Ministry of Interior, the search continues for four reported missing persons, while in Jablanica, the number now officially stands at five missing persons whose disappearance was reported by their relatives, friends and neighbours. Of the 16 who died, one body is still unidentified,” reads the press release.

Rescue teams from Croatia, Serbia and Turkey are deployed helping local authorities searching in the municipality of Jablanica, with other teams alongside volunteers delivering food, water, medicines and other necessities to people in villages cut off by roads.

In Konjic as well, all available units are constantly on the ground and are working to clear the roads to the cut off villages. Today, the rescue teams made their way to the villages of Lipovci and Lukšija, from where they evacuated the stranded residents. The arrival of a convoy from

Slovenia and Montenegro will also send rescue teams to help.
