Sarajevo, 15 January 2026, dtt-net.com – The government of Bosniak-Croat entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) yesterday agreed to amend a law of 2021 which would pave the way for construction of gas interconnector to Croatia for supply with USA LNG after a deal reached following years of disputes between Bosniak and Croat parties. At yesterday’s session the ministry of energy of the entity’s government was tasked to prepare amendments to the law and which would include an American investing company to be in charge of construction and also manage the project excluding the local public BH-Gas from the project as part of the compromise reached in November on the proposal of USA government.
The government also tasked the ministry to prepare a draft-agreement with Croatia for the interconnector as construction works are expected to start this year.
„The Government of the Federation of BiH has tasked the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry to inform the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH about this conclusion for further action aimed at continuing the procedure for concluding the Agreement between BiH and Croatia,“ reads a press releas from yesterday’s session.
“Also, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry is tasked with initiating activities to prepare amendments to the Law on Southern Interconnection with the aim of enabling the implementation of the project through other models, including the granting of a concession,“ reads the release.
Today a working group on the project took place, which included USA Embassy diplomats over next steps to make the project happen.
“These next steps build upon yesterday’s Federation Government decision to amend the FBiH Law on the Southern Interconnection and to refer the draft BiH-Croatia international agreement to the BiH Council of Ministers for further action. The U.S. Embassy will continue to coordinate with BiH actors to bring energy security and reliability through the strategic project of the Southern Interconnection to all citizens in BiH,” the embassy said.
During the week representatives of the USA company AAFS Infrastructure and Energy LLC were in Sarajevo and had meetings with entity’s officials. The AAFS is expected to be the company to which the concession will be granted.
The gas interconnector is meant to diminish BiH’s dependence from Russian gas, which enters from the stretch from Serbia through TurkStream owned in majority by Gazprom, and which reaches the country from Black Sea through Türkiye and Bulgaria.
