Tirana, 14 October 2026, dtt-net.com – Protesters opposing Prime Minister Edi Rama stormed the parliament building today as violent street clashes with police erupted in capital Tirana of the EU candidate country from the Western Balkans region.
The demonstrations have entered their 136th day, but the crisis has sharply escalated over the past 24 hours. In response to the intensifying unrest in the EU-candidate country, Rama was expected to deploy the army, according to some local media reports, but today it did not happened.
A group of young demonstrators broke through an entrance door to the parliament and set fire to the building’s entryway, while another group targeted Rama’s office.
Police deployed tear gas and water cannons to push crowds away from institutions dominated and controlled in decision-making by Rama and his Socialist Party (PS). But clashes persisted in the surrounding streets, where some groups vandalized nearby shops and businesses.
The situation with the daily rallies of 134 consecutive days worsened rapidly following yesterday’s rally, during which police broke a young man’s leg, beat dozens of demonstrators, and dragged others away.
Roughly 30 people were arrested, and 5 police officers were injured yesterday, though the total number of injured protesters remains unknown.
Today, the unrest has spiralled entirely out of control, prompting the deployment of firefighters alongside the hundreds of regular police officers and special police forces.
The unrest initially began 136 days ago as a peaceful movement demanding Rama’s resignation, whom protesters and opposition accuse of corruption, organized crime, abuse of state budget, administration capture, links with drug cartels and election fraud.
Protesters are calling for the government to scrap plans for luxury resorts in Zvërnec and Sazan – projects involving Qatari investors and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and want Rama to resign, and keep their hands off country’s beautiful seaside landscape.
More than ten protesters are reported injured by 19h, according to local media reports, as chaos in Tirana streets continued until late hours with more students, including secondary schools’ pupils, joining “Flamingo Revolution” thousands of angry protesters near country’s central institutions and surrounding streets and squares of Tirana.
Opposition lawmakers also joined students against Rama and his officials of PS party.
Albania violent protest of today against PM Edi Rama ended around 22:00h with at least 14 policemen injured (according to the police department) and more than 50 protesters injured (according to the opposition Democratic Party) and dozens detained.
Albanian Army was not deployed in Tirana streets today.
Students and citizens said they will continue their “Revolution” against Rama until he steps down from the post.
Rama today was not seen in social media and kept silent in relations to the chaos in the capital town, while in the early morning he posted about yesterday’s opening of on negotiating chapter in Luxembourg, in EU accession negotiations.
The protests in last 24 hours message that those who are against him and his manner of his ruling the country have other concerns over their daily lives rather than Rama opening and closing some EU reform books in the capitals of European bloc, where 92% of country’s citizens are in favour of the country becoming full-fledged member.
