European Democrats join Albania protesters in calling for PM and opposition leader to step aside

Tirana, 21 July 2026, dtt-net.com - European Democratic Party (EDP) today called Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama and the leader of main opposition party, Sali Berisha, to step aside and pave the way for new leadership in the country, a call which thousands of protesting citizens are making for 50th consecutive day in Tirana streets. “On the fiftieth day of protests in Tirana, one placard captured the crisis: “Albania is not a private resort.” @ediramaal ’s government has backed a project that threatens protected land while undermining transparency and trust in the rule of law. Sali Berisha’s opposition has failed to offer credible democratic renewal. Albania deserves new leadership, accountable institutions and a genuinely European future. Both must step aside,” the EDP said through X today.
