North Macedonia opposition accuses PM of being under influence of Russia-friendly Orban, shift from EU pathway

Skopje/Brussels, 05 February 2026, dtt-net.com – Macedonian opposition party today accused country’s prime minister of being under influence of Hungarian counterpart and at the same time shifting from EU membership process. The leader of the social democrat SDSM party, Venko Filipche, said that influence of Viktor Orban on the Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski started with a 1 billion Euro loan agreement, while reiterating Mickoski’s and his conservative VMRO-DPMNE party refusal to undergo constitutional changes imposed by Bulgaria needed for opening EU accession negotiations.
