North Macedonia’s PM calls for changes to law on bar exam if Council of Europe body greenlights it amid Albanian language dispute

Skopje, 10 February 2026, dtt-net.com – North Macedonia’s Prime Minister today said that the law on bar exam should be changed in order to be consistent with the Constitution and the law on languages to enable ethnic Albanian students to pass it in native language, but says that the proposal should first get the greenlight from the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. Two days ago, Mickoski said that the law on languages “is clear” and that if “someone requests to pass the exam in Albanian they must be allowed to do so", but today he said that the current law on bar exam does not allow to be passed in Albanian language.
