Skopje/Brussels, 29 January 2026, dtt-net.com – North Macedonia will not include Bulgarian community in its Constitution unless Bulgarian authorities accommodate rights of Macedonian community in Bulgaria and Skopje receives formal guarantees from Sofia and the EU over Macedonian identity and Macedonian language, which Bulgarians refuse to recognize, Macedonian prime minister told the parliament today.
“There will be no constitutional changes while I am the Prime Minister unless at least two conditions are met. The first condition is that the Macedonian community in Bulgaria receives the guaranteed rights in accordance with international law and international conventions and resolutions on human rights. I am not asking for the Constitution to be changed. Second, until we receive guarantees for our Macedonian identity, for which I expect support from you as my fellow citizens, for my Macedonian language, that there will be no more bilateral vetoes, that there will be no more new belittling, new humiliation and new obstructions by anyone for subjective reasons,” Hristijan Mickoski said today in an answer to Albanian lawmakers over current deadlock on country’s EU membership process because of Bulgaria condition and veto embraced by other 26 member states in 20222 during previous social-democrat-led government in Skopje.
