Tirana/Brussels, 02 June 2026, dtt-net.com – A top EU official today called on Albanian authorities to do more for independent judiciary structures and in the fight against corruption and organized crime, as the country enters into second phase of accession negotiations.
“Continued, tangible political commitment to the rule of law and in safeguarding an independent and accountable judiciary are essential foundations for EU membership. I encourage you to step up the efforts in fighting corruption and organised crime,” the President of European Council Antonio Costa said in a press conference today in capital Tirana in a joint press conference with Albanian prime Minister Edi Rama.
