11 killed and more than 30 injured in Bosnia retirement home fire

Sarajevo, 05 November 2025, dtt-net.com – Eleven people died and more than 30 are injured in a fire that broke last night in a retirement home in Tuzla town of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), authorities said.

Prosecutor Vedran Alidžanović said in a press conference today that the fire broke at 20:45 at seventh floor of the nursing home.

Firefighters, police, and medical emergency teams were deployed at the location to extinguish the fire and rescue people inside.

The injured, including residents of the nursing home, firefighters and policemen, were sent for treatment at town’s hospital, of which four in severe condition.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at the moment, and authorities have launched an investigation.

While expressing his condolences to the families of those killed in the tragic fire, the Prime Minister of the Bosniak-Croat entity (Federation of BiH), Nermin Nikšić, announced the assistance of entity’s government in the rehabilitation of the home and the care of its beneficiaries.

“A disaster of enormous proportions, condolences to the families of the victims. We plan to come and as the Federal Government we will participate in the rehabilitation of the home as well as the care of the home’s users,” Nikšić told public broadcaster BHRT.
