Russia-owned oil refinery asks USA further postponement of sanctions as final deal on acquisition by Hungarian company still pending

Belgrade, 13 February 2026, dtt-net.com - The NIS oil refinery in Serbia has asked USA government to extend suspension of sanctions beyond February, as Hungarian MOL and Russian majority shareholder are still negotiating a final deal of acquisition. NIS, which is owned 56,15 by Gazprom’s subsidiaries Gazpromneft and Intelligence, submitted yesterday a new request to the US Treasury Department for the “issuance of a special license, enabling the uninterrupted conduct of the company’s operational activities after 20 February, when the deadline stipulated by the previous license expires.”
