Kosovo ruling party weirdly starts voting for election of President without quorum, while opposition accuses it of “constitutional coup”

Prishtina, 27 April 2026, dtt-net.com - The Parliamentary majority of the Prime Minister Albin Kurti today started a session for electing country’s new President without needed quorum of 80 lawmakers in the 120-seat parliament, continued it until first round of voting on two of its candidates, and then interrutped to postpone it for tomorrow. The session was boycotted by lawmakers of opposition parties who accused Kurti and his Vetevendosje (LVV) of constitutional “coup”. In the first round, LVV’s candidate Feride Rushiti got 63 votes of 64 lawmakers present. Immediately after the first round, the Speaker of the Parliament Albulena Haxhiu, who initially pushed for the voting to take place, then decided to interrupt dhe session and postpone it for Tuesday 10:00 oclock.
