Massive rally held against Serbia’s authoritarian President

Belgrade, 23 May 2026, dtt-net.com – Dozens of thousands of citizens showed up today in a protest called by students against authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling Progressive Party (SNS), whom they accuse of corruption and organized crime. The protest of today comes as pressure on Vucic to call early parliamentary elections is mounting, as students and opposition believe that only change of regime will enable full accountability over the tragic accident of November 2024, when 16 people, including a student, lost their lives from collapse of train station canopy in northern town of Novi Sad. Protesters say massive corruption in construction sector of officials and government-linked companies led to the tragedy.
