EU Parliament reiterates calls to North Macedonia to meet Bulgaria-imposed condition for entry talks

Brussels/Skopje, 04 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The European Parliament (EP) Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) in a draft-report of yesterday called again on North Macedonia institutions to include Bulgarian community in the Constitution, a condition imposed by Bulgaria and embraced by other 26 member states of the EU and former governing coalition in Skopje four years ago, which are the condition for the country to unlock its accession negotiations. The AFET text adopted with 43 votes in favour and 17 against, with 13 abstentions says that “all political stakeholders who are committed to the country’s European path should urgently join forces to implement the necessary constitutional changes that will allow the opening of the first negotiation cluster.”
