61% of Germany’s 2025 power generation came from renewables, but prices higher than EU average

Berlin/Brussels, 06 June 2026, dtt-net.com – In 2025, renewable energy sources accounted for 61.1% of Germany’s electricity generation, while in the whole EU renewables represented 47.3% of the electricity generated.

Despite growing participation of renewables in electricity production prices have remained high, with households paying 31% more than the EU average, according to a country-report by the European Commission.

Electricity prices for non-household consumers, including industry, in Germany last year were 7% above EU average.

Another report said that in the second half of 2025, average electricity prices for households in the EU remained largely stable, with a slight increase to €28.96 from €28.79 per 100 kWh in the first half of the year.

According to the EC, these price levels remain well above levels from before the 2022 energy crisis. 

Ireland had the highest electricity prices at €40.42 per 100 kWh, followed by Germany (€38.69) and Belgium (€34.99), while the lowest prices were observed in Hungary (€10.82), Malta (€12.82) and Bulgaria (€13.55).
