Capacity of gas interconnector between Greece and North Macedonia expected to be increased to 6 bcm/y for supplies to Serbia too of USA LNG, according to PM

Skopje, 20 September 2026, dtt-net.com – From current 3 bcm/y of the gas and hydrogen-ready interconnector between North Macedonia and Greece, the capacity of the pipeline could be doubled in the future, according to the Macedonian prime minister. Hristijan Mickoski, told American Atlantic Council think-tank in an interview last week during the visit to Washington that the pipeline, which will be also supply some of LNG from Greek Terminal of Alexandropoulos to Serbia too, will be used in North Macedonia for gas-fired electricity plants. “We are not a big consumer, but our ambition is to be a transit country. I mean, annual consumption of gas in my country is [currently] approximately 0.5 bcm/y, which is not something meaningful and not something big.
