EU selects 46 additional Critical Raw Materials ‘strategic projects’ in 16 member countries to lessen dependence from dominant China

Brussels, 09 October 2026, dtt-net.com – The EU executive body, the European Commission (EC) today selected 46 additional ‘strategic projects’ of Critical Raw Materials, to be helped financially, and part of new undertaking since 2025 of the European bloc with the goal of decreasing enormous dependence from immense dominance of China globally.

The EC’s second list of ‘strategic projects’ announced today puts first in the list in terms of numbers of projects Copper, Cobalt, Bauxite/Alumina, Nickel, and Lithium, followed by Platinum, Rare Earth Elements, Manganese, Titanium, Tungsten and Gallium, in 16 member countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden).

The second list of today ups the number of projects to 106 overall since the first one of March last year, and according to the French Executive Vice-President of the EC for [EU] Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné, are aimed that by 2030 EU “capacity meets at least 10% of the EU’s annual consumption for extraction, 40% for processing, and 25% for recycling of strategic raw materials to enhance competitiveness, develop greater resilience and be less dependent on any single supplier [China]”.
