Former Kosovo MP speaks of “bloodshed” consequences if PM and his MPs would have refused to support changes proposed to the special war crimes court law

Prishtina, 14 October 2026, dtt-net.com - A former Kosovar lawmaker from opposition warned Wednesday that a high-stakes parliamentary session would have ended in "bloodshed" if Prime Minister Albin Kurti and fellow deputies from his Vetevendosje party (LVV) had refused to pass changes proposed by the opposition to the country's special war crimes court law and the court itself sponsored by the EU and the USA and located in The Hague. In an interview with Klan Kosova TV, Daut Haradinaj of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), claimed that Kurti "voted out of fear" during the tense October 6 session on late hours. Changes proposed by the Democratic Party (PDK) formed by the sentenced former President Hashim Thaçi in 1999 and led until 2020, include eventual retrial to be moved to the court in capital Prishtina, in case the appeal panel decides retrial  of his and three other former guerilla leaders which fought for liberation and independence of Kosovo from Serbia during the 1998-1999 war. Haradinaj said that tensions were so high that lawmakers would not have been allowed to leave the parliament building until the amendments were successfully passed.
