Brussels, 26 May 2026, dtt-net.com – Albania authorities and EU representatives today met in Brussels to mark opening of 33 negotiating chapters in EU accession process since late 2024, which technically marks midpoint of the journey until full membership, with difficult process expected ahead in closing the very same in remaining phase of the journey, on which Tirana officials hope will be concluded in late 2027 to be able join the European bloc in 2030 if all required reforms are met.
An Intergovernmental conference (IGC) was held today in Brussels between Albanian government and the EU officials, following the adoption of Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) by 27 member states of the bloc over state of play of rule of law and judiciary reforms, which paves the way for entering into the second phase of the accession talks, and which says that the country must improve and implement the very same set of reforms and which are part of negotiating chapters which are closed at the end of process.
