Tirana, 06 November 2026, dtt-net.com – Albanian student groups have filed a formal complaint with the country's Constitutional Court, challenging a controversial financial crackdown by Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government aimed at suppressing ongoing anti-government demonstrations.
The legal escalation comes as youth-led protests demanding the Prime Minister's resignation continue to paralyze parts of the capital.
Two prominent student organizations, “Students in Protest” and “Student Revolution,” joined forces with four non-governmental organizations -including the Albanian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights - to petition the top court of the EU-candidate nation.
The joint filing targets a wave of €55 fines issued by state police over the last three days against dozens of young demonstrators, which authorities have justified under the pretext of clearing traffic blockages in Tirana, and decision of government threatening with up to more than €5000 fines (equal of 10 minimal salaries).
