Albania’s PM and Serbia’s President call for W. Balkans countries EU accession without veto rights, no commissioners and no seats in the European Parliament

Tirana/Belgrade/Brussels, 28 February 2026, dtt-net.com – The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, called Saturday on 27 EU member states for what  they called “accelerated integration” of Western Balkans countries in the European bloc without veto powers, without having members in the European Commission (EC), and without seats in the European Parliament. In a joint text published today at German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), the two leaders said such option for EU membership would allow candidate countries of the region (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia) integration into EU’s internal market and Schengen area of free movement of people and goods.
