Brussels, 05 July 2026, dtt-net.com – In the January-March period of 2026, 45.5% of the electricity produced in 27 EU member countries came from renewable energy sources, thus increasing from 42.7% from the same quarter of last year, with the three countries being the leaders in the highest domestic shares of electricity from renewables.
Wind accounted for 44,9% of total renewable electricity across the EU for the first quarter, followed by hydro power with 28.0%, solar with 17.3%, combustible renewable fuels with 9.4% and geothermal and other energy sources with 0.4%, according to the data from EU’s statistical agency, Eurostat.
The highest shares of electricity from renewable sources were generated in Denmark (90.0%, mostly wind), Portugal (82.9%, mostly hydro) and Lithuania (75.7%, mostly wind), while the lowest shares were recorded in Czechia (12.7%), Malta (13.0%) and Slovakia (17.2%).
