Germany’s Chancellor and French President call Kosovo PM to make progress on EU-mediated deal with Serbia focused on controversial autonomous body

Prishtina, 22 March 2026, dtt-net.com – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called Kosovan Prime Minister Albin Kurti to make “progress” in the EU-mediated negotiations with Serbia which in 2023 resulted with a unsigned agreement and which is focused in formation of an autonomous body for Serb minority and which many of Kosovo Albanians reject fearing it would transform the country in a Bosnia type of divisions on ethnic administrative lines and state paralysis. Merz made the call in a letter congratulating Kurti on his December elections win and said that such step is needed for Kosovo’s promised EU pathway.
