Kosovo and Serbia officials agree to work on war missing persons but no move on formation of controversial autonomous body for Serb minority

Brussels, 22 January 2026, dtt-net.com – Kosovan and Serbian officials met today in Brussels under mediation of EU diplomats and agreed to start working on finding around 1600 missing civilians from the 1998-1999 Kosovo war of independence from Serbia, but as expected the two sides are still deadlocked over formation of an contested autonomous body for Kosovan Serb minority which is the central part of unsigned 2023 EU-brokered agreement between leaders of the two countries. EU mediator Peter Sorensen today met with Kosovo’s chief negotiator Besnik Bislimi and his Serbia counterpart Petar Petkovic in Brussels as part of dialogue launched with the two countries since 2011 aimed at what is called “normalization” of relations between the two sides.
