Kosovo institutional mess continues as early elections expected again

Prishtina, 09 September 2026, dtt-net.com – Despite deadline set by the Constitutional Court expiration a month ago, ‘constitutive’ session of Kosovo parliament after June 7 early elections resumed today, with parliamentary majority re-electing Speaker, but refusing to put into vote election of deputy speakers from opponent parties and postponing the session to Friday (September 11). Albulena Haxhiu of the Vetevendosje (LVV) party of the caretaker Prime Minister, and MP at the same time, Albin Kurti, was re-elected to the post with 62 votes of LVV and lawmakers of some of minorities partner parties. But she interrupted the session refusing to put into vote candidates for the deputy-Speaker posts, from two Albanian opposition parties - Democratic Party (PDK) and Democratic League (LDK)) - and of the Serbia-backed Serb List party.
