Podgorica, 02 January 2025, dtt-net.com – The gunman who killed twelve people, including two children, on Monday in Cetinje town, has committed suicide, country’s prosecution said.
Prosecutor Andrijana Nastic said that Aco Martinovic committed killings in five different locations, starting with the shooting in the restaurant and then later committed suicide.
Four other people are being treated in hospital of wounds. Three of them are still in life danger.
The government has declared a three-day mourning.
The Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said that the government will consider a “complete ban on possession of weapons” in the country.
“Weapons must not be on the streets and in the hands of those who can harm others. Therefore, I will ask the newly appointed leaders of the security sector to offer solutions starting tomorrow that will ensure the safety of our citizens,” he said.
According to a 2017 survey of gun ownership worldwide made by the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey, Montenegro, as well as Serbia, are in the fifth place with 39.10 weapons per 100 persons, after the United States (120.5) Falkland Islands (62.1) Yemen (52.8), New Caledonia (42.5) followed by Canada (34.7), Uruguay (34.7), Cyprus (34) and Finland (32.4) in the top ten countries worldwide.
