Montenegro opposition party seeks election law changes to fully-open lists of candidates

Podgorica, 20 March 2026, dtt-net.com – Montenegro’s main opposition party today has forwarded its proposals to the Parliament for election system changes for 2027 parliamentary and municipal elections, seeking to switch to fully-open list system to enable citizens to directly vote for their preferred candidates running for seats in the 81-seat body and municipal assemblies. The law-proposal was sent to the parliament by the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), local media reported, as part of efforts tor election system reform in the EU candidate country.
