Prishtina, 12 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The number of troops in the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in Kosovo will be reduced to the pre-2023 levels by next year, amid improvement of security situation since, NATO announced.
The NATO Command centre for Europe in Shape/Belgium said today that the reductions will be made as the security in Kosovo remains “generally steady.”
Following increased tensions and violence three years ago, including attacks against KFOR peacekeepers in Zvečan by Serbia-backed rioters in May 2023 wounding around 90 NATO troops, and the September 2023 attack on Kosovo police by Serbia-backed 100 gunmen, NATO member countries sent additional 1000 troops to Kosovo increasing the troops levels to current 4,657.
