Serbia’s President vows to top EU official improvements of controversial laws

Belgrade, 17 May 2026, dtt-net.com – Authoritarian President of Serbia said he told EU Commission’s President that country’s institutions – referring to the parliament dominated by the party he controls – will review and improve controversial judiciary laws as suggested by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. Aleksandar Vučić said in a press release that he had a “very good and open conversation with Ursula von der Leyen on the continuation of the reform process in Serbia, with special reference to the implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission and further compliance with European standards.”
