Ljubljana, 13 August 2026, dtt-net.com – A truck driver, national of Serbia, was caught by Slovenia’s police yesterday morning smuggling a total of 99 illegal migrants.
The public Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO reported that the arrest took place after in the early morning police were notified that several people had been observed in the Drnovo area getting out of a truck, and the driver then continued driving.
The truck with Serbia licence plates was tracked down and stopped and arrested 37-year-old Serbian citizen, while and the vehicle, loaded with wheat, was seized.
The action continued by tracking down and arrest of 69 citizens of Bangladesh, 28 citizens of Pakistan, and 2 citizens of Ghana and Nepal.
According to the Slovenian media report, yesterday too, police found another 27 illegal migrants in a van of Slovak licence plates driven by a Slovak national.
Police said today that in the last 24 hours, a total 152 people were processed for illegal entry at the border with the Republic of Croatia, namely 152 in the area of the Novo mesto Police Station.
“Among them, we processed the most citizens of Bangladesh (84), Pakistan (31) and Egypt (26),” police said in a press release.
Compared to January-June 2025 period, the number of irregular border crossings through Western Balkans region to the EU territory in same period 2026 dropped for 24%, to 4009 respectively, according to the new data by EU’s border agency FRONTEX.
Preliminary data say the total number of irregular border crossings recorded to the EU from all 5 routes (Western Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, Central Mediterranean, Western Mediterranean and Western African) during the 6-month period this year was more than 49000, which is 37% less than same period 2025.
