2 years of new government in North Macedonia and 4 years of blocked EU pathway amid Bulgaria-imposed condition

Skopje, 03 August 2026, dtt-net.com – It’s four years now since previous socialist-led government in North Macedonia agreed with the Bulgaria condition, embraced by other EU member states, to include Bulgarian community in country’s constitution to open accession talks, but four years later and two years since a new conservative government took power in Skopje the EU pathway of the candidate country remains blocked as constitutional changes are not being made. The new foreign affairs minister in Skopje, Timco Mucunski, reiterated that the government of the Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, will not make concessions when it comes to Macedonian identity and language for the sake of EU membership, as Bulgaria refuses to recognize them, and treats Macedonian language as Bulgarian dialect.
